Discovery Flight · first light at KREG

Your Discovery Flight. You fly the plane.

A real first lesson, not a sightseeing tour. A proper brief on the ground, then the left seat of the Cherokee PA-28-180 over the Gonzales area, with your instructor beside you the whole way.

Your first takeoff

Nobody forgets their first takeoff. Yours is about ten minutes in.

  1. Hold shortYour instructor runs the checklist out loud. Nothing is skipped.
  2. ThrottleThrottle forward, and the runway blurs.
  3. 55 knotsAround 55 knots, you pull back. Gently. That’s all it takes.
  4. LiftoffThe ground lets go of you.
  5. 500 feetMost people are grinning before 500 feet. You’ll see.

The left seat is the pilot’s seat. It’s yours.

Everyone’s nervous.

The first-timer in the parking lot right now is nervous. The airline captain was nervous on her first lesson too.

Your instructor’s hands are on the controls with yours — they never leave.

Nervous means you’re paying attention. Good. Pilots pay attention.

What to expect

Your Discovery Flight, step by step

  1. 01

    Before you fly

You meet your instructor at Hangar C4 at Louisiana Regional Airport, talk through what you’ll do, and walk around the Piper Cherokee together before climbing in.

  2. 02

    In the air

Once airborne, you take the controls — climbing, turning and leveling off over South Louisiana — with a Certified Flight Instructor beside you, on a second set of controls, the whole time.

  3. 03

    Back on the ramp

Back on the ground, you talk through the flight, ask anything you like, and hear what training toward your certificate would look like at your pace. The next step is yours to take when you’re ready.

Good to know

A real introduction, not a joyride

A Discovery Flight is designed to help you experience the aircraft, the instructor, and the training environment before committing to a larger plan. If you decide flying is for you, it’s also how you judge us: the airplane, the instructor, and whether our approach fits how you want to learn.
